Art is great... but its not always about the paint

When I started painting, I thought an artist picked up a paint brush painted and fairy dust did the heavy lifting. Nope, not even close. Art installation is NOT an elective course and it can be difficult. It requires lifting, stretching, hammering, kneeling, loading and unloading the artwork to prevent damage all while dashing between less than perfect weather conditions. While this isn't the fun part of an artists existence, it is a necessary part of their success.
In September I was juried into the Edgewood Cottage Artist in Residence Exhibition. That was one of those times where the installation of the work overtook the excitement but the ultimate experience outweighed everything else. Labor Day weekend with fabulous people from all over the country ( and Australia) came through and told their tales, imparting their own art adventures and making me feel once again, excited and grateful to be there.
Today, I installed an exhibit at the Graystone Lodge in Boone NC. The hotel's incredible General Manager, Ben McKethan ,not only left us to our own devices to install as we saw fit but gave me free reign on what type artwork to hang. Its a rarity to be bestowed with such trust. The Graystone is a high end luxury property and I am proud to have been invited to exhibit at this exceptional hotel. The massive glowing fireplace and elegant surroundings lend themselves to a successful and exciting partnership.
Long story short, despite the hard work that goes along with being an artist, the final rewards and new friendships are worth it ...every time!
